Basalt Island (again)
by John TaylorThe day started chaotically (again - Ed. Who's Ed? - Neil). Arriving at Tai Po, we found that our designated boat was double-booked. Swift action by Tam provided us with a replacement Yip 2, but meant a further 45 min trip to Tso Wo Hang. The delayed start was soon caught up, however, and a repeat of last week's visit to Basalt Island (though a different location, honest, it was at least 100 metres from where we were last time) brought reasonable visibility and good sea life (octopus, moray, scorpion fish and good anemones).

Lots of new achievements on the training front, with Dan and Tracey (above) qualifying for Club Diver, and Dominic qualifying for Dive Leader after a heroic attempt to kill Finlay during the tow (I must admit, that finesse gave him the final extra qualifying mark!).
Thankfully, we had a break this week (ouch!) from the acrobatic attempts of earlier weeks, no-one threw themselves anywhere other than in the water. For those concerned members, Marc hasn't been seen since his effort (hiding in Sipidan?), and Eileen is still eating lots of vegetables.
Good weather also (despite the Kai Tak scare) is giving us excellent diving at the moment. Thanks to all those non-participants who refrain from cluttering up the dive boat!
Many thanks for a successful day to Paul and Les, we wouldn't have new divers but for you guys!
John
